Full or Associate Professor of Microbiology, Immunology and Inflammation - Tenure Track
The Center for Microbiology and Immunology at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) at Temple University invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor level whose research program is in the field of microbiology and immunology.
We are seeking candidates who have basic/translational research programs in any field related to host-microbe interactions. This includes but not limited to how microbiota impacts host immunity during vaccination or infection, pathogens alter the microbiota to establish productive infections, and to elicit human disease.
The Center was established in 2021 to advance discoveries in host-microbiome interactions, host-pathogen interactions and immune genetics to elucidate the pathogenesis of complex immune and infectious diseases. The Center for Microbiology and Immunology believes in the value of basic science discovery, the diversity of all individuals to promote innovation in personalized health care of immune diseases, and excellence in microbiology, immunology and microbiome research coupled with education. Successful candidates will join an interactive faculty housed at a major medical school in Philadelphia, with state-of-the-art core facilities including confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, BSL-2,-3 labs and excellent AAALAC-accredited animal facilities. Moreover, there is full access to the core facilities at Fox Chase Cancer Center, including DNA Sequencing, High Throughput Screening, Molecular Modeling, Gene Expression Analysis, and Transgenic Mouse Facility. Our Center is located across the street from Temple University Hospital, and we have long-standing and productive collaborations with clinicians and physician-scientists.

The Center for Inflammation & Lung Research, Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University located in Philadelphia, PA, invites applications for a full time, tenure-track appointment at the Associate or Assistant Professor level. Center for Inflammation & Lung Research
The Center for Inflammation and Lung Research (CILR) is composed of basic, pre-clinical, translational and clinical researchers who are interested in the pathogenesis of lung disease, and other inflammatory disease states. Investigators in the CILR study both acute and chronic inflammatory disease using a combination of in vitro and animal model systems, as well as patients being seen by physicians in the Department of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery. The investigators in CILR are highly collaborative and strive to conduct their research studies using multidisciplinary approaches to study the immunology, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology of inflammatory diseases.

About Our Rheumatology Program:
- The Rheumatology Clinic cares for a diverse patient population with a wide range of rheumatic diseases, including large numbers of patients with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
- It provides specialized care in the form of: weekly dedicated Lupus Clinic; a biweekly CTD-associated Interstitial Lung Disease clinic; and monthly Lupus Nephritis Clinic, in collaboration with the Temple Lung Center and the Section of Nephrology respectively.
- At-home infusion capabilities as well as a centralized onsite Infusion Center facilitate administration of biological and other intravenous therapy, while also benefiting clinical research.
- In addition to above Programs, the Section’s Leadership is open to implement innovative ideas as suggested by new faculty.

The Center for Asian Health, Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will pursue a vibrant and externally funded research in areas of health disparities among diverse ethnic minority populations, as well as professional services and teaching/training. The competitive candidate for this position will be expected to function as a health disparity investigator and contribute to multidisciplinary team science. We seek candidates whose experiences in innovative population science research has prepared them to advance our mission and commitment to reducing health disparities in cancer, cardiovascular diseases or diabetes among Asian American Pacific Islanders, underserved and underrepresented racial/ethnic minority populations through cohort studies or behavioral interventions. Candidates should demonstrate strong potential to obtain external funding. Candidates with a track record of conducting innovative, interdisciplinary and collaborative research are preferred.
Qualifications:
- PhD in a relevant discipline
- Completion of 2-3 years of research-focused postdoctoral training with a specific research focus on health and health disparities among ethnic minority populations including Asian Americans
- Multiple publications in peer-reviewed journal of high professional standing during the past 3 years
- It is preferable that the candidates have experience with community-based research and grants writing and submission.
This position seeks to identify extraordinary scholars from fields including but not limited to public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, kinesiology, psychology, geography, or related fields with a demonstrated track record of scholarly work in health disparities, population health, social and environmental epidemiology, and community health. Interdisciplinary researchers are strongly desired. The candidate should have expertise conducting health disparities research, including study design and methodology, data analysis, and dissemination of findings to various stakeholders. The candidate should have strong communication, writing, problem solving, critical thinking, and interpersonal strengths. Teaching interests must include health disparities, and health equity.
The candidate should ideally have significant experience conducting research that addresses social determinants of health that relate to the neighborhood and built environment, as well as social and community context and be able to apply these principles to intervention, community-based, epidemiological based studies conducted by the Center for Asian Health. Some examples of research areas include the neighborhood environment, access to nutritious foods and physical activity opportunities, racism, discrimination, and violence and how these relate to health outcomes and contribute to racial and ethnic health disparities. Expertise with data analysis and proficiency in software such as SAS and GIS is preferred. The candidate will be expected to secure extramural funding to conduct health disparities research that investigate social and environmental factors that lead to health disparities in health outcomes such as chronic disease, infectious diseases, and lifestyle behaviors.
The candidate will help advance the strategic plan and mission of the Center for Asian Health through reducing cancer and health disparities among diverse and underserved populations. The candidate will contribute to the interdisciplinary aspect of the center through their expertise in health disparities research but specifically providing unique expertise with macro social determinants of health. The candidate will collaborate with multiple researchers from other fields and provide guidance in this area of research that is a topic of priority in health disparities research related to cancer, chronic disease, and infectious diseases.

Established in 2000, Center for Asian Health at Lewis Katz School of Medicine is one of the first in the nation dedicated to reducing cancer and health disparities among diverse Asian Pacific Americans (funded by NIH/NCI). The Center's mission is to reduce health disparities and improve health equity among growing Asian American Pacific Islanders, underserved and underrepresented diverse populations through research, education/mentorship, community outreach, dissemination and clinical support for enhancing culturally and linguistically appropriate services in health care. Center for Asian Health has a long tradition of excellence that promotes and supports community-based participatory research (CBPR) and patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR). The Center has been committed to the mission of fostering collaborative transdisciplinary research that comprehensively integrates social, behavioral, environmental, clinical, genetic and biological factors within a multilevel framework by addressing the determinants of health and health disparities in cancer, diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Center for Asian Health has conducted over 120 research projects and received continuous funding for over $90 millions from National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Prevention and Control, PCORI, state and city health departments and other sources The Center has established an innovative and effective model for reducing health disparities and advancing health equity in underserved populations. The Center for Translational Medicine (CTM) at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University was established in 2012 and houses a cutting-edge molecular medicine research unit. We are currently seeking candidates for a tenure-track faculty position in the area cardiac biology and disease. Candidates with current independent funding are preferred. We seek scientists with a basic science or translational research focus in cardiac disease and molecular therapeutic approaches. Preference will be for experience in the following areas: (1) intra-organ communication including cardiac tissue with immune cells; (2) cardiac calcium signaling including intracellular communication and filament regulation; (3) cardiac epigenetics; and (4) cardiac cell death and metabolism. This position will complement and synergize with ongoing basic, translational and clinical research programs in the CTM and across Temple’s Medical campus. The CTM occupies the 9th floor (over 25, 000 sq ft of open lab space) of the Medical Education and Research Building. The Center currently has multi-disciplinary research interests in gene and stem cell therapy, cardiac and pulmonary signaling, heart failure, and mitochondrial pathobiology with research cores supporting imaging, gene therapy/vectors, bioenergetics, and surgery/physiology. The Lewis Katz School of Medicine is seeking a BC/BE internist to join the Department of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery in the role of nighttime hospitalist. Although an ideal opportunity for Internists looking to pursue thoracic medicine specialization in the near future, this interest and/or additional training is neither required nor expected. The position will be fully supported by an in-house critical care attending and fellow, who will be readily available for consultation as needed.
The successful candidate must be BC/BE in Internal Medicine. They will provide inpatient service, including weekend coverage, from 7 pm to 7 am for a minimum of 23 weeks per year. They will serve as the attending physician, managing admissions and supervising our phenomenal team of advance providers on the uncovered unit and floor service for the Department of Thoracic Medicine and Surgery. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time faculty position in Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry (CLP).
The inpatient CLP service provides psychiatric consultation and follow up to Temple University Hospital a 515- bed, award-winning academic medical center with a wide variety of tertiary and quaternary programs. The team consists of two board-certified, nationally recognized attending faculty, psychiatry residents and medical students. Residents from other subspecialties also rotate on the service. PGY4 psychiatry residents participate in the TUH CLP inpatient administrative elective to further advanced clinical experience and master liaisons skills. The outpatient CLP service operates half a day a week treating and evaluating patients in collaboration with residents in the CL Psychiatry subspecialty track.
The faculty attending will participate in the development and accreditation of a Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship (anticipated opening July 2023).
The faculty attending will take weekend call evaluating consults at TUH with a 3rd year resident in a rotating basis averaging 1:19 weekends per year.
The position requires a strong interest in teaching including bedside and didactic teaching and resident supervision. An interest in publishing or participating in research is preferred. The Department is also involved in collaborative, multidisciplinary research efforts throughout Lewis Katz School of Medicine. An interest in publishing, participating in research, or developing novel educational curricula is preferred but not required.
Current expansion projects include development of a comprehensive women’s mental health program, growing an established integrated/collaborative mental health care to primary care practices throughout the Temple health system, and development of a Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship program (anticipated start July 2023). The Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University is currently seeking BC/BE anesthesiologists with subspecialty training in anesthesia for cardiothoracic surgery for full-time faculty positions within the Temple Health System. We are particularly interested in dynamic individuals from diverse backgrounds and under-represented groups.
The anesthesiology department delivers care to patients in a variety of locations throughout the healthcare system including service at Temple University Hospital, Fox Chase Cancer Center and CT Anesthesiology at Jeanes Hospital.
The cardiac surgical service encompasses both the main Temple University Hospital campus as well as a secondary surgical site at Jeanes Hospital.
In addition to traditional revascularization and open valve surgery, a significant number of patients are treated each year with percutaneous valve placements, endovascular stent procedures, pulmonary thromboendarterectomies, VAD placements, total artificial heart support, and heart and / or lung transplantation. Currently Temple is one of the busiest lung transplant centers in the northeastern United States completing roughly 120 transplants per year. A similar number of patients are treated annually with ECMO for either surgical or medical indications.
Duties of new faculty will include patient care, teaching of medical students and residents, and supervision of CRNAs. Opportunities for scholarly effort and clinical research are available and participation in the academic mission of the department is required. Rank is commensurate with experience.

Critical Care Anesthesiologists – Temple Health – Philadelphia, PA
The Department of Anesthesiology at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University is seeking qualified candidates for several outstanding Faculty Opportunities at one of Philadelphia's leading and fastest growing academic medical centers.
Position Specifics
• Busy inpatient and outpatient procedural anesthetic service
• Resident / CRNA supervision 85%, Own cases 15%
• Anesthetic support to 63 locations daily across three campuses – Temple University Hospital, Temple-Jeanes Campus and Fox Chase Cancer Center
• Case mix includes: trauma, vascular, transplants, orthopedic and neurosurgical cases
• Large volume of complex cardiac cases, including the region’s busiest lung transplant program and the largest PTE referral center in the Eastern US
• Critical Care coverage for the Neurosurgical and Trauma / Surgical ICU
• Participate in bedside teaching / didactics / simulations for residents and medical students
• Opportunities to conduct clinical research
Candidate Qualifications
• M.D., D.O. or Foreign equivalent
• Academic credentials suitable to the faculty appointment sought – positions available for appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Professor
• In possession of or eligible to receive and unrestricted medical license for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology. Completion of an ACGME approved fellowship in Critical Care Medicine or Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia.
Candidates in final year of training may apply.

• Level 1 Trauma Center experience preferred.
