The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (Temple University, Philadelphia) seeks outstanding basic and translational neuroscientists for a tenure-track faculty position.   The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants should have an MD and/or PhD degree and are expected to have or establish a creative, independent research program. A track record of extramural funding (NIH, NSF, or industry) is required. Areas of particular interest are neurovascular biology, tissue engineering for functional models of neurovascular units, and drug delivery into the central nervous system. Another focus area is mechanisms of lung injury in various inflammatory conditions, functional models of alveolar epithelial barrier, and lung drug delivery. The research environment is interdisciplinary and highly collaborative. Generous startup funds and outstanding new open lab space (including a new BSL-3 facility) are available. New faculty will have the opportunity to collaborate with a very active group of NIH-funded neuroscientists within the Department focusing on blood-brain barrier regulation, HIV CNS infection, stroke, neuro-lupus, effects of diabetes, and effects of alcohol/drug abuse and electronic cigarettes on the neurovascular unit and of alveolar epithelial barrier. The Center for Substance Abuse Research (CSAR) at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) at Temple University invites applications for a tenure track faculty appointment at the level of Assistant Professor to expand our breadth of basic science substance abuse research. This includes preclinical cell and animal models and/or patient-based research areas.   CSAR has been the cornerstone for research on the biological basis of substance use disorders at LKSOM for the past 25 years. This multidisciplinary center houses highly collaborative, internationally renowned faculty and their laboratories to answer key questions in addiction and addiction-related research spanning the impact of drugs of abuse on the brain and immune system, stress and pain mechanisms, pharmacology of existing and novel analgesics to the identification of potential new therapeutic agents. The successful candidate’s clinical focus will be on kidney and pancreas transplantation, living donor nephrectomies, and vascular access, and will also can participate in liver transplantation.  Additional responsibilities will include organ procurement and the potential to participate in pediatric kidney transplantation. The Department of Cancer and Cellular Biology (DCCB) at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) at Temple University invites applications from qualified candidates for tenure-track faculty positions at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. Translational scientists addressing questions pertinent to the causes and treatment of cancer are strongly encouraged to apply. The gynecologic oncologists perform surgery from minimally invasive (including robotic-assisted) to radical surgery (including intestinal and urological). The Department of Neurology at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA is excited to be offering an inaugural 2-year fellowship position in Clinical Neuropsychology. The Temple University Hospital Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Program is designed to provide specialty training in clinical neuropsychology in accordance with Houston Conference guidelines and to prepare fellows for eventual board certification in clinical neuropsychology.   Mission The mission of this fellowship is to provide education and training to future neuropsychologists in accordance with accepted standards in the specialty of adult clinical neuropsychology. This fellowship provides both clinical and didactic opportunities to trainees that will prepare them for a career in the independent practice of neuropsychology, with exposure to multidisciplinary team care in the setting of an academic medical center.   Clinical Training This fellowship offers clinical experience in adult neuropsychology with a broad range of referrals, including suspected neurodegenerative disease, advanced cerebrovascular disease/stroke, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, HIV/AIDS, anoxic/hypoxic encephalopathy, and traumatic brain injury, or to assess pre-surgical candidacy for epilepsy and neuromodulation. While the focus of training is within an outpatient context, opportunity for bedside assessment of patients admitted to Temple is occasionally available with opportunities for growth for interested candidates. The fellow will also participate in Neurology’s Memory Disorder’s Clinic. The neuropsychological training experience includes formal weekly didactics and monthly fact-finding exercises through a neuropsychology training consortium of regional academic medical centers. The fellow will also have opportunities to attend didactics through the departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology. The fellowship is tailored to be consistent with Houston Conference Guidelines, to produce competent psychologists in the specialty of Clinical Neuropsychology who are prepared for board certification with ABPP/ABCN. A focus of this fellowship is on culturally appropriate assessment and diversity-related issues are a core aspect of training. Testing with medical interpreters is a common occurrence. Goals for competencies of the fellow include the impact of diversity on the neuropsychological exam, in addition to traditional competencies of interviewing, report writing, data integration, differential diagnosis, feedback provision, and multidisciplinary team collaboration.   While this is a new position, the expectation is that the fellow will have 3-4 outpatient evaluations per week. The Memory Disorders Clinic is currently every other week, but this is subject to increase as the program continues to evolve. Fellows will assist with the supervision and training of practicum students, who will facilitate testing.   Didactic Seminars The neuropsychological training experience includes formal weekly didactics and monthly fact-finding exercises through a neuropsychology training consortium of regional academic medical centers. The fellow will have opportunities to attend didactics through the departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology.  They will also have opportunities to present at neurology residents conference at TUH on topics related to neuropsychology. The fellowship is tailored to be consistent with Houston Conference Guidelines, to produce competent psychologists in the specialty of Clinical Neuropsychology who are prepared for board certification with ABPP/ABCN. The fellowship start date is July 1, 2024; however, a later start date is negotiable.   Program Structure and Setting Temple University Hospital is a 900+ bed tertiary and quaternary care center handling over 330,000 outpatient visits, over 36,000 admissions, and 3,000 births per year. TUH includes a Level 1 Trauma Center, Burn center, and one of the region’s busiest emergency department. The Clinical Neuropsychology Fellowship Program is housed in the Department of Neurology in Temple University’s Lewis Katz School of Medicine. The Assistant Clinical Director for HSC provides basic primary medical care to students and manages clinical operations at the HSC campus. They assure that adequate, safe, and timely nursing and provider services are made available to all students.
