Summary of Position

Individuals developing cancer often suffer from co-morbidities that impact the cardiovascular system, influencing their ability to sustain treatment; reciprocally, some therapies for cancer can damage the heart, seriously impacting survivorship. The Department of Cancer and Cellular Biology (DCCB) at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) at Temple University invites applications from qualified candidates for tenure-track faculty positions focused on Cardio-oncology at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. Applicants to this research-intensive position are expected to devote primary efforts to performing creative, high-impact studies supported by extramural funding. Translational scientists and physician-scientists seeking hybrid laboratory-clinical appointments are strongly encouraged to apply.

The DCCB is a hub of innovative cancer research at the LKSOM, with laboratory space located near to other departments providing broad expertise. Cardiovascular research and cardiovascular medicine are particular strengths at LKSOM; hires to this position would have the opportunity to work closely with researchers in the Aging + Cardiovascular Discovery Center (ACDC), led by Dr. John Elrod, and interact with clinicians in the Department of Medicine, led by Dr. Daniel Edmundowicz, among others in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences. In addition, DCCB members typically receive secondary appointments at the nearby Fox Chase Cancer Center at Temple Health, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, allowing them to benefit from access to extensive research core facilities at Fox Chase, and interactions with clinical researchers at Fox Chase and Temple Health who lead national clinical trials for cancer and cardiovascular disease. The goal of the DCCB is to conduct interdisciplinary research that leverages the strengths of these exceptional programs, and to serve as a bridge to other outstanding research and clinical initiatives across Temple.

Qualified candidates will hold an M.D., Ph.D., or M.D. /Ph.D., and must possess academic credentials that would support academic appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor. Candidates should have a commitment to support and promote diversity among faculty, staff, and trainees.

Temple Health is one of Philadelphia's leading academic medical centers, with 20 clinical departments; 8 Basic Science Departments; 13 Research Centers (all of which are engaged in research, education, and patient care) and more than 1,000 scientists and physicians sharing the mission of performing world-class research and translating the innovative discoveries to the bedside. Additional information about the LKSOM is available at Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, and about FCCC is at Fox Chase Cancer Center. A video about activities at the LKSOM is provided at Temple Health - Leading Academic Medical Center.
