Summary of Position

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine is excited to announce a search for a board certified or board eligible emergency medicine physician for a one-year non-accredited fellowship in Emergency Department Research.

The Fellowship curriculum is designed to prepare fellows with the research training and skills in research operations and administration necessary to excel in a leadership role within an academic emergency department immediately upon graduation. The incumbent will:

  • Develop a specific area of expertise and emergency medicine research focus.
  • Develop knowledge and skills related to research collaboration and communication within a translational research environment.
  • Develop skills needed to successfully assume more complex, high-level leadership roles within emergency departments, medical schools and hospital systems as their career progresses.

The Department of Emergency Medicine has an extensive research portfolio with a wide range of research areas including emergency ultrasound; acute neurological illness and injury such as acute stroke, status epilepticus, and traumatic brain injury; critical illness; and emerging infectious diseases.  The Research Fellow will work closely with a core group of established investigators and a team of coordinators in the Department. In addition, funding and resources are available to the Research Fellow to develop pilot projects and obtain the necessary skills to establish an independent research career. In addition, the Research Fellow will have the opportunity to work directly with research mentors at partner academic institutions (University of Pennsylvania, Copper Medical Center,  University of Maryland/Shock Trauma) if interested. The Research Fellow will serve as co-Director of the medical student research elective and summer work-study programs and work 720 clinical hours in a Temple Health Emergency Department.  For more information about EM research programs, please click here.
