Summary of Position

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University is accepting applications from highly skilled physicians for the role of Division Director of General Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences.

This is an excellent opportunity to join one of Philadelphia’s leading academic medical centers which is home to more than 1,000 physicians and scientists who share the mission of bringing innovative treatments to patients.

Reporting to the Chair of Ob/GYN, the Division Director will be responsible for guiding a growing general OB/GYN service, as well as providing care in general gynecology and obstetrics.  The Division Director will oversee the clinical activities of the members of the Division and develop protocols and implement patient safety and quality improvement activities. In addition, the Director will monitor the quality and efficiency of the medical care provided by the Division, and outcome metrics that can be compared to national benchmarks.

Assuring that the Division provides excellent care with the best outcomes is a priority. The Division Director will participate in appropriate departmental, medical school, hospital and health system committees, assist the department chair with faculty recruitment and retention, and promote a collegial and satisfying work environment.  They will serve as a mentor to junior faculty and be actively involved in the education of OB/GYN residents and medical students, while guiding and mentoring residents on their required clinical research projects.

We are particularly enthusiastic about engaging with physicians who possess a strong mission-oriented approach and a fervent commitment to tackling health disparity and maternal mortality concerns. Notably, our department houses multiple faculty members who have secured substantial health equity grants.

Temple University Hospital (TUH) is an 879-bed tertiary- and quaternary-level acute care hospital. TUH-Main is in the same campus as the School of Medicine. TUH is a high volume urban medical center, with over 338,000 outpatient visits and over 2,000 births annually. The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences employs approximately 30 MDs or MD/PhDs, plus supporting administrative, nursing and research staff. There are five clinical divisions including General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, Reproductive Endocrinology and Gynecologic Oncology. The department supports 25 residents.

Temple’s steadfast dedication to the comprehensive care of women’s health throughout their reproductive journey is made evident by the development of the new TUH - Women & Families campus located just 3 miles from the main hospital. This facility will include 13 labor and delivery rooms, thirty-six private post-partum rooms, and a Level III neonatal intensive care unit with 41 bassinettes, as well as six operating rooms and an intensive care unit. There will be a fetal testing center and 50 examining rooms in the outpatient area where breast health, bone health, behavioral health, primary and specialty care will be provided in addition to Ob/Gyn. Diagnostic and interventional radiology, pharmacy, blood bank, and laboratory services will be provided on site.

The ideal candidate will possess an M.D., D.O. or foreign equivalent and board certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Applicants who qualify for a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor are strongly preferred. Applicants must also be able to obtain a medical license in the Commonwealth of PA prior to their start date.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and CV online.
