Summary of Position

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University seeks full time inpatient psychiatrist to care for patients within the extended acute care unit (EAC) at Temple University Hospital – Episcopal Campus. The EAC unit utilizes a team-based approach to provide psychiatric care and rehabilitation to patients who require a longer length of time for stabilization and recovery.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science serves patients with a wide variety of psychiatric disorders, and our faculty work with a talented group of psychologists, registered nurses, behavioral health therapists and social workers to provide both long term and short term adult psychiatric services within the Temple University Health System.

Our Psychiatric Services include:

  • 118-bed Inpatient Behavioral Health Program for both intensive treatment of patients with co-existing disorders of mental illness and substance abuse and patients with a primary psychiatric diagnosis.
  • Two inpatient units dedicated to extended acute inpatient care.
  • A full-service Crisis Response Center which is the busiest emergency psychiatry service in Philadelphia.
  • An Outpatient Psychiatry Practice where we evaluate and treats patients from the community for a full range of services - from twice-weekly 60-minute psychotherapy to brief monthly medication management.
  • Consultation-Liaison Services providing both inpatient and outpatient services at multiple Temple University Hospital campuses.

Our faculty positions require a strong interest in bedside and didactic teaching and resident supervision. Temple has a thriving residency program and we recently expanded our educational programs by adding four new faculty members with expertise in substance abuse, child and adolescent psychiatry, consultation and liaison and forensic psychiatry.

The Department is also involved in collaborative, multidisciplinary research efforts throughout Lewis Katz School of Medicine. An interest in publishing or participating in research is preferred but not required.
